Bug Description

Binary package hint: mutter

When I login to my Ubuntu Netbook Edition session I first get an all white screen, then the Unity launcher and panel appears. I see this white screen for five seconds or so. From `lspci` my video controller is:

I'm seeing this too (but only for like a second) with a nVidia GeForce 6600 GT (NV43) and the nvidia-current BLOB (256.35).

I'm now seeing the white screen for ~5 seconds (with Unity 0.2.22-0ubuntu1, 256.35 and 256.44 from the xorg-edgers PPA).

I'm also seeing the white screen for so many seconds with an ati radeon hd 3200 with unity vesion 2.28. Also I'm not sure why after the white screen unity is unbearably slow with artifacts everywhere. Not sure if its the hardware because I'm using a desktop and not a netbook.
