The problem here is trying to move a file before we're done writing to it. This is an upstream issue, planning to fix for 1.2.1.

Thanks for identifying the bug Sandy. I changed the status to Confirmed for now in the hope that it will be fixed upstream.

I haven't been able to reproduce this bug, but I have pushed a patch upstream that might fix it.

Sree, if you're willing to build from source, please download this patch, apply, and see if the bug goes away:

Hi Sandy,

I applied the patch (to Note.cs in Tomboy dir?) and recompiled from source
but still got (I think) the same error message about access violation. Then
i went into the directory where the access sharing violation was occuring,
and just deleted the .note file there - and Tomboy started working. Not sure
if the patch made the difference or deleting the note would've worked in the
first place, but glad it's fixed. Thanks!

Accepted tomboy into lucid-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

I am unable to reproduce this issue to test the SRU candidate fixes this bug. I have moved/deleted notes before they appear in ~/.local/share/tomboy however I don't seem to be able to replicate the bug.

Can someone please add steps to reproduce so that this SRU can be tested?
Thanks in advance!

I was the original bug reporter, and I cannot reproduce the issue myself after I deleted the offending note in ~/.local/share/tomboy, not sure if that fixed it, or the process of recompiling (which might have fixed potential dependencies issues along the way) fixed it. Either way, since no one else has reported similar bug, this fix can be nominated for release.

Could someone please try whether the proposed version still works as expected?

Even though I am unable to reproduce the bug reported here, I can confirm the package from -proposed is working as expected. I have been using the tomboy package from -proposed for the last couple of days & everything is working fine.
