Indicator-applet does not update icon / display notification when receiving new Imap mail

The bubble notification now comes up! I had a filter that would copy all mail locally as a work-round for bug 492248, which is gnome #604027 on bugzilla. Removing that filter makes the bubble come up again saying "1 new message" but still a zero count and no icon change.

I am also dealing with this on both of my test systems.

I am testing with a GMail IMAP account. I enter the account information and the mail is retrieved in Evolution fine. If I leave Evolution open the notification applet shows the name of the account with a (0) after it. If I close Evolution the name of the account goes away.

In both cases I never get a notification that a new unread mail has arrived.

Managed to get the icon to change when Evolution is not focussed, it also updates the count correctly too. However when Evolution is focussed, even through a full screen new email being composed, the icon does not change and the bubble notification does not appear.

Screenshot attached (yes I've changed the icon back to the old green one from ubuntu-mono 0.0.6, but I do have 0.0.9 installed).

Now have linux-2.6.32-17 installed and evolution-indicator-0.2.7-ubuntu-2 (from yesterday) as well as all other Lucid updates. Also installed ubuntu-desktop which installed evolution-couchdb and evolution-exchange as new packages...

I will try at home to see which package fixed most of this bug (unless the no notification when writing an email is intentional, although that doesn't make sense to me).

The latest round of updates I did has changed the behavior of this for me.

If evolution is open in the background but not visible I now get a notification for any new emails that arrive. Emails currently in the inbox but marked as unread do not show on the count.

With Evolution closed I get no notifications. The inbox applet does not show any information.

As noted by phillamg, if evolution has the focus there is also no notification.

I've been using Evolution+IMAP+Gnome for months (karmic and now lucid) and never even knew there was a notification function at all (ie icon never changes, be it with evolution open/closed or with new mail)!

Same here. It's still happening on Lucid. Having it not show anything unless evolution is open kind of defeats the purpose. But this is a combination of this bug (the fact that it doesn't show unread messages) and the other one that doesn't allow evolution to minimize to the applet icon.

Clean install of Lucid without notifications of any kind, evolution open or not.
Settings - evolution set to play a sound and display notification in panel.
Have tried changing to Inbox and to all folders.
No success
