Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

My account settings, in particular my username and password are correct. I can log into facebook via browser using the password, and I am really using the username facebook.com/username. Nevertheless, the authentication fails.

This is not the login to your facebook account to be used is the one you created here http://www.facebook.com/username/

You have removed facebook.com of facebook.com/username so just have a username?

Yes, I removed that. Empathy tried to log into facebook over and over again, but did not succeed. Therefore, I thought it would never succeed and filed the bug report, but left it running in the background. At some point, much later, I wasn't paying attention to it, Empathy managed to connect to the my facebook account. So now it is working fine.

I am facing this bug, and Empathy never connects to Facebook chat, as long as it is running.

Try Logging out of Facebook from your browser and then log in using your user name instead of your email address.

I had this problem until I logged in using my user name instead of email address (enter your user name where it asks for email address.) Logging in like this corrected the problem for me.

I believe this bug is a problem with Facebook and not Empathy. Can anyone confirm that the same problem and occurs with Pidgin or other Jabber clients.

I had the same problem, solution is really easy ...

Just try the following instruction, and let me know if it works for you ...

EMPATHY PROBLEM

General description:
Empathy can't log in at the facebook chat interface

Do basic check before BUGFIX!
First, control your facebook username and your password, if your your username is active, you can visit your facebook-profile in your web-browser by tipping http://www.facebook.com/#Replace this text between the slashes with your username#/

Important-Note: Your normal name in facebook is NOT the same as your facebook-username, after normal registration on facebook, the facebook-username is normally still NOT set, you have to choose one in your profile settings or by visiting the following link http://www.facebook.com/username/

BUGFIX description:
My solution, after registration of the required facebook-username, wait a few hours, it could take some time until the account is available for any connection from empathy! If it's still not working, open facebook in the webbrowser, go to your profil settings, change your facebook-password once, logout and close your webbrowser. Set the new password in empathy and try to connect again!

Now it should work fine...
