Bug Description

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

indicator-applet 0.3.3-0ubuntu1, indicator-messages 0.3.3-0ubuntu2, Ubuntu Lucid

In the messaging menu, the text of the "Chat" and "Mail" items does not line up with the text of the "Broadcast" and "Pidgin" items.

I assume this problem would happen for any indicator-applet menu with icons, in which case it's an indicator-applet bug in general rather than an indicator-me bug in particular.

Just as the text of all items with zero icons should line up with each other, the text of all items with one icon at the leading end should line up with each other, regardless of the width of that icon.

(This bug is independent of bug 537312, which is about special indentation of icon-less items in the messaging menu in particular, but it may make that bug easier to fix.)

Some investigation on this has resulted in realizing that there is no 16x16px icon for applications-chat-panel and application-email-panel, only 22x22px icons. For some reason the larger ones are not being loaded and downscaled. This should be fixed in GTK.
But, there should also be 16x16px versions of these icons for Lucid.
Now a bunch of bug edits.

I'm suspecting something is done the wrong way here. Normally, in GTK menus, icons are put in the "empty space"/gutter on the left of the text. Notice that even though you have icons on some of those menu items, there is still blank space on their left? Well that's where the icon was supposed to go.

This looks like the 22 pixel issue.

I think we narrowed this down yesterday to being a bug in the ubuntu-mono theme. The problem seemed to be with the way there are symlinks to .svg files, where the symlinks are named with .png extensions.
