Bug Description

Binary package hint: vino

Going to:

  System->Preferences->Remote Desktop

and ticking [x] Share this Desktop, then immediately unticking it again without closing the preferences dialogue will generate a runaway 'vino-server' process that uses 100% CPU for no apparent reason.

Ideally 1. vino-server should never use 100% CPU; 2. vino-server should not be running at all if the enabling tickbox is unselected.

I could reproduce this on Karmic.

This is still an issue in Lucid.

This is still an issue in Maverick on both amd64 and i386 - vino-server hangs with 100% cpu. If you try and re-enable access, the remote desktop prefs dialog box hangs while trying to check connectivity until vino-server is killed.

In my testing, it only happens if you also have ticked one of "you must confirm each access" or "require the user to enter a password".

Still present in Maverick. Is bug #340515 the master bug for this?

I just checked this in Ubuntu 11.10 and couldn't reproduce the problem. Please reopen if this is still an issue for you.
