Bug Description

Invoking any suspend mode results in a black screen. Machine is still on but nothing else happens.
With old kernel (2.6.28 I think), suspend works, but touchpad not and system feels slowly.

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous suspend and prevented it from resuming properly. The resume processing hung very near the end and will have appeared to have completed normally.

Hi brehmc,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 474949

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

thanks for your answer, although quite late...

That bug doesn't occur any more. Only in a very few cases the machine
doesn't execute the standby mode completely, screen becomes black,
machine seems to suspend, but the fan is still on and it desn't wake up
anymore. But recently this occurs very rarely.

But I have another issue:
at some random point that I cannot specify more clearly the left mouse
button stops woriking...
By chance you've heard of this from other users?

If that could help I'm gonna gather the requested system information for
you this evening.

Cheers,
Christian

I am having this same problem on 9.10 kernel 2.6.31-9-rt, but on mine nothing seems to fix it, it locks up everytime I suspend.

I also had this problem on an Asus eee 901, which has the same Intel 945 chipset.

Here is some output from lspci on the Dell:

I had the same issue on my Dell Latitude D430 on a fresh build of 9.10 with all the current updates applied. I have just finished the upgrade to 10.04 and the same issue still exists. ie if you go into suspend you get a black screen that you cannot recover from with a power off and on.

Sorry I meant to say you cannot recover from this suspend black screen "without" powering off and on.

Found my suspend problem on the Dell 430 was related to the SD card. If I unmount the card the suspend and recovery are fine. Not sure my Linux has a problem doing this automatically.
