New status/importance edit icon looks bad

Bug Description

There are at least two problems with the new (devel r8925) status/importance edit icon:

 - It makes the page twitch when it shows or hides, as it sits too low and makes the task row higher when shown. With Karmic's Firefox 3.5, changing it from vertical-align: middle to vertical-align: top makes things much better.
 - It sucks. The dreaded drunken exclamation mark looks bad at the best of times (bug #400925), but it's even worse on a lighter yellow background (like a task matching the current context).

The icon is now shown all the time (in devel), and the icon sucking is recorded in bug 287154, so I'm marking this as Invalid.

~beuno is working on a nice icon for mouseover. better alignment is definitely worth doing.

It's better. I like the mouseover highlight to indicate it's
clickable, rather than if it's always yellow looking like a state
indicator.

But the icon still looks more like a slash or an exclamation mark
(which I realize is another bug.) I'd like to see that mockup with
perhaps just a 'text document' icon or maybe 'notepad with pencil'.

I agree with Martin's comments, except that I think that a pencil is a good icon, and that what needs to change is the way it's drawn.

In one of the wireframes I've seen, a pencil is drawn with a black outline and a white interior. This looks great! The problem with the current pencil icon and the one in beuno's mockup is that the border of the pencil is the colour of the background, which makes it look like a gap, not a border.

There is room for this to be improved for sure. It may be covered by the rebranding work Huw is doing. However, for now, its working and consistent with the general look and feel, so I'm going to downgrade this to low. (Huw, if you are working directly on it, feel free to put back to high :))

The height issue was resolved. The ugly icon is bug 287154 and still needs fixing.
