Packages for this software appear to exist in Debian already. Ubuntu has semi-automatic tools to sync new packages from Debian so it will most likely appear in the next Ubuntu release.

This bug was fixed in the package iptables - 1.4.4-1ubuntu1

---------------
iptables (1.4.4-1ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable, remaining changes: LP: #399211
    - Don't fail to run iptables-save if iptables module isn't loaded.
    - debian/patches/0901-build-libipq_pic.a.patch - Build libipq_pic.a with
-fPIC. Upstream changed build system and patch modified accordingly.
    - Revert changes between 1.4.1.1-3 and 1.4.1.1-4, thus bringing back
      the howtos.
    - Added linuxdoc-tools to Build-Depends
    - Modified debian/iptables{,-dev}.install to match DM syntax
      (removed debian/tmp)

This bug has re-emerged in Ubuntu 9.10 and constantly complains about the intrapositioned statement vs. extrapositioned statement. While this should be more of a wishlist bug, it does affect a lot of security tutorials and security advice given by people like me who use Intrapositioned statements.

@EnvyGeeks: You've probably commented on the wrong bug as this bug just keeps track of a merge request from debian. Re-marking this bug as Fix Released.
