Bug Description

SRU Justification:

Impact: This is a simple cherry-pick from upstream mainline for the Jaunty release. It just adds sonixj Webcam ID to the table, so Jaunty can support such Webcam devices.

Fix: Addition of IDs to device table.

Testcase: see below

---

If fit for Jaunty updates add USB IDs for the Hercules Classic Silver and Hercules Deluxe Optical Glass
webcams to the gspca sonixj driver. They are supported in upstream gspca

Hi Jani,

Thanks for the patch. Support for device 06f8:3004 appears to already be included in the upcoming Karmic 9.10 kernel (06f8:3008 has yet to be included it seems). I've attached the git commit id below for the first device. It could likely qualify for a Jaunty stable release update as well. I'll go ahead and open the Jaunty nomination. Thanks.

3008 will also get mainlined, so far it is only in the DVB hg tree (I sent the patch there a couple of weeks ago) since May 7
I can't easily figure out how to find a link to that changeset in the mercurial web interface :(

So it is safe to add that too, it's got the same chips as 3004 (and more importanly WFM :)

Jani,

We, kernel team, don't want to add this patch to our stable release kernel even though this is a small patch. Please try to confirm mainline build kernel works for you, http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30-rc8/.

So if it works, this issue will gone in next release.

Thanks

Accepted linux into jaunty-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

Marking this Fix Released for the actively developed kernel since both the patches for adding support for devices [06f8:3004] and [06f8:3008] are already included in the latest Karmic Alpha kernel releases. Just for reference, I'm pasting the git commit id for the patch which adds support for device 06f8:3008.

@Jani -- its not clear from the comments in this bug, but in the end the fix was applied to Jaunty -proposed kernels. If you are able to test those kernels and confirm whether they work for you that would help us get the kernel released for general use.
