Bug Description

The new translation import acknowledgement mails have started spamming me every hour about the 'help' template in the debian-installer source package. Please make them stop! I don't think this can be bug 333772; I've got 12 batches of these so far today, which is more than the number of Ubuntu architectures.

Here's the most recent template import acknowledgement, with full headers:

Hello Colin Watson,

On 2009-02-28 23:03+0000 (24 minutes ago), you uploaded a translation
template for help in Ubuntu Jaunty package "debian-installer" in
Launchpad.

The template has now been imported successfully.

Thank you,

The Launchpad team

Colin, there seems to be something funny happening with debian-installer builds, afaict. Can you tell me if this is normal behaviour for a package builder:

 • https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/amd64/debian-installer

(i.e. it seems the package was built a big number of times).

If it's not, this is likely a problem in Soyuz which was only detected because of the perpetual translation import notifications you got, so it's not all bad about them. :) If this is a transient and accepted problem in Soyuz, as soon as we are able to fix bug 333772, it should go away as well (since we should be doing translation uploads on sourcepackage level).

If we are unable to fix this problem in the next few days, we'll disable notifications until we can (i.e. if it's the same amount of work to fix them as it is to disable them, you can guess what we are to do).

Other than bug 333772, this seems to be a Soyuz problem. Colin, I've asked them to look into it, and stop debian-installer from being perpetually built.

Colin, it looks as though the version 20081029ubuntu22 entered the publishing cycle on the 27th, and for some reason, has continued to supersede itself ever since.

I'm not certain, but this might happen if a second package somehow entered the system with the same version number. In which case I wonder whether uploading an ubuntu23 version to supersede it may fix the issue (quick-fix - obviously something needs to be done to stop it from recurring).

Celso will be around soon, and will diagnose it within 2mins I'm sure :)

Wow, yes, this is completely abnormal. I'm entirely happy to do a new upload to see if that gets rid of this ...

Steve: unless they keep looping ad infinitum, I think you have bug 335831 instead.
