Bug Description

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

This may be a duplicate of bug 286424.

To reproduce:

Using a freshly upgraded Jaunty (current as of this morning, 15-Feb-09), select System->Preferences->Screen Resolution.

A window pops up with the question, "It appears that your graphics driver does not support the necessary extensions to use this tool. Do you want to use your graphics driver vendor's tool instead?" Select "Yes."

In the "NVIDIA X Server Settings" window, select "X Server Display Configuration."

Click "Save to X Configuration File"

An error window appears with: "Failed to parse existing X config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'!" Click OK. Application crash occurs at this point.

Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate an useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

ttf-dejavu: installed version None, latest version: 2.25-3
libglib2.0-0: installed version 2.19.6-0ubuntu3, latest version: 2.19.6-0ubuntu4
libcups2: installed version 1.3.9-12, latest version: 1.3.9-13

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

Confirmed on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Alpha6 (64 bit) with quite clean system.

This bug occurs exactly same way:

""Click "Save to X Configuration File"

An error window appears with: "Failed to parse existing X config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'!" Click OK. Application crash occurs at this point.""

Problem _could be_ due the fact that I had already used System->Settings->Screen(or Display? not using english version this time) to setup my screens before I got nvidia binary drivers installed.

So just now I'm stuck with only one display working at the time.
