running gnome-open 'mailto:<email address hidden>' open thunderbird mail to ///<email address hidden>

Hello.
I have tried to check it but I couldn't.
Writing in the firefox bar "mailto:<email address hidden>" opens a thunderbird window to send an email to <email address hidden>, which is good.

Can you tell us who to reproduce it?

Sorry, my fault. I had not seen the dash between gnome and open and I thought you were referring to gnome in general and not to the specific command gnome-open.
I can confirm this issue in 8.10.

A dirty workaround:
  echo 'thunderbird $(echo "$1" | sed s/mailto:\\/*/mailto:/)' > /tmp/mailto-fix && chmod +x /tmp/mailto-fix

Open 'prefered applications' and for mail reader, set custom command:
  /tmp/mailto-fix %s

Just to keep things from being hidden, I'm attaching my proposed patch to this bug (previously it was on Bug #291847)

this looks like it's fixed on Jaunty already, running gnome-open <email address hidden> opens an evolution window here with the right address same for the firefox test case, may anybody else confirm this behavior? thanks in advance.
