Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-notifier

When the intrepid CD is inserted update-notifier in hardy does not detect it as a CD that is can upgrade from. This is because there is a bug in the quoting in apt-cdrom-check.

TEST CASE:
1. use fresh hardy
2. insert the intrepid alternate CD
3. verify that a dialog pops up that offers to "cancel", "Start package manager"

4. install the update from hardy-proposed
5. take the CD out and insert it again
6. verify that the prompt has "Run upgrade"
7. hit the run upgrade button and verify that it actually does that

Using update-notifier version 0.70.9.0 from hardy-updates and an Ubuntu alternate CD from 20081028 I did see the 'Run upgrade' option. So I was unable to recreate the original bug report. Is there something else that needs to be done to recreate the bug?

I am also unable to recreate the original bug with either update-notifier and update-notifier-common 0.70.9 in hardy-updates or update-notifier 0.70.7, the original released version. I tested with the Xubuntu alternate from 20081021 (the earliest I had on hand) to see if the isos had changed in a way that addressed the issue, but still got the option to "Run upgrade".

I do note that I was able to successfully update with the -proposed version of update-notifier as well as perform an upgrade.

Could you please run: "moutn" and check where the CD is mounted? I suspect it might be a cornercase issue for people wihtout a cdrom mount entry in /etc/fstab (my test system did not have one).

I am also unable to recreate the original bug in hardy with 0.70.9 - my CD mounts as /media/cdrom1 (under VMware).

Version 0.70.10 from hardy-proposed also works for me and so if it resolves the issue for you and as it has no ill side effects for me, it might as well be pushed to -updates.
