[EDGE] Bug # in the top left corner is trying to implement the browser 'reload' button. Why?

Bug Description

In https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/287547 (or any other bug on edge), the top left section with "<icon> Bug #287547:" is hyperlinked to the current page. This does not happen on production, so is presumably a deliberate change.

This breaks the workflow where people easily copy the bug number from there (say, to put it into changelogs).

But why are you trying to reimplement the browser 'reload' button anyway?

And confusingly, the same text is *not* hyperlinked on a comment page such as <https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/287547/comments/1>, where it would actually be useful.

As Andrew says, this is a great chance to fix bug #78565.
Maybe we can mark it a duplicate of that one and shift the attention there?

The reason that the link was added, was to cover cases like: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/287935
That link takes you to the actual URL, and I don't understand why it's much of a problem in regular bug pages.
Can you give me some rationale of it?

This is not a duplicate: fixing bug 78565 would not fix this bug in any way.

The issue with URLs like <https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/287935> is covered by bug 246041.

As well as making it harder to select the bug number for copying (as Sarah explained), the link implies that you're not on the main bug page (as in pages like <https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/malone/+bug/287935/+nominate>) when really you are.

This was explicitly requested by some users, and it solves their use case, while not blocking anyone else.
I think it's worth keeping.

Changed in malone:
status: New → Won't Fix

It does. Sarah said it blocks her. It blocks me too.

Lovely. More regression in the LP U/I.

No, it doesn't block anyone, it just makes you change the habit of copy n pasting from that place, to copy n pasting from the URL, which is actually less prone to error IMHO.
So there's a difference between someone actually not being able to do something, and having to change a learned habit.

It isn't less error prone to change. Also, #nnnnnn isn't in any url
anywhere. You've got two Ubuntu core-dev telling you this will be a
problem. I'm sure your vast experience in distro development is sufficent
that it's perfectly fine to ignore this input.

Irony is great and all, but you forget Launchpad has a varied set of users.
The rationale isn't "it's a problem", it is "it's annoying".
It was a problem for the people who's work flow was broken.
I'm sure you can try and understand that there are other people out there who have different needs.

Yes. Just as I'm quite accustomed to distro-developers being low on that
list.

What bug does this annoyance fix?

The bug that was fixed was bug 141215, though oddly it hasn't been marked fixed. (As I had commented in both that report and this one, I think the approach described in bug 246041 is better.)

Fixing bug 141215 itself would not really be useful, except that bug 176492, bug 244998, and bug 249434 exist. The fix to bug 141215 doesn't actually fix any of those other bugs, it just makes it easier to work around them some of the time.

OK. I agree with the intent of that bug as I've run into that problem
myself, but no where in that bug does it as for the bug number to be
linkified.

Looking back at the 'you know there are other users' response earlier in
the bug I am at a complete loss for words that my Mother would approve of.

OK. This is not my first try at a reply as I'm trying to remain polite.

Fundamentally the intitial developer reaction to this bug is user hostile.
I would encourage you to actually listen to users and not search for bogus
excuses to ignore them.
