Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When I drag and drop an item from the "Application Launcher" section of the "Add to Panel" window, instead of showing the application's icon on the new launcher, it shows a yellow diamond with a question mark on it. When I hover my mouse over it, it shows (using the example of Calculator):

(null)
Open '/usr/share/applications/gcalctool.desktop'

When you add the launcher using the "Add" button in the "Add to Panel" window, the launcher is added correctly.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Right-click an empty space in the panel and select "Add to Panel..."
2. Click "Application Launcher"
3. Drag an application to the panel

Expected result: The application button displays in the panel with the application's icon, and the name of the application in the tooltip

Actual result: A yellow diamond with a question mark in it is displayed in the panel, and the tooltip displays (null)

Thanks for your report. Could you post a screenshot that illustrates the problem? I'm not sure it's the same as another similar one I've seen a while ago.

Sorry, I also neglected to mention that the launcher that gets created doesn't work. When I click on one I get the following error dialog:

Could not show '/usr/share/applications/gnome-obex-server.desktop

The specified location is invalid

I've also noticed that the properties dialog for a launcher created with a drag-and-drop is different than the properties dialog for a launcher created by clicking the Add button.

I have verified that this bug still exists in the live environment of the latest Hardy Heron desktop CD.

The test case success for me with the hardy-proposed version, and the panel works fine in general.
