Bug Description

Upon opening Gnomesword2, the dictionaries don't display any information. The preview window for strong's numbers displays no information either. Interestingly, all other parts of the application behave perfectly. I also found that within about 5-10 seconds of opening Gnomesword2, the dictionaries, and preview window SOMETIMES work sporadically, but then stop responding.

I'm running Gusty. Should I post a backtrace?

Update to a sane version.

Ubuntu keeps for reasons unknown packages which are 1+ year out of date.

I am using Hardy, and have a similar experience when using GnomeSword (2.2.3). We have also tested it in Intrepid.
The difference is that not all dictionaries are affected.
Mousing over Robinson's morphological tags shows the preview fine. Similarly clicking on the Robinson Morphological tags brings up the Robinsons entries in the dictionary. Similarly, if I use Websters dictionary, meaning come up fine when words are double-clicked. However when I try to mouse over or click on Strong's Numbers, nothing happens. I need to manually enter Strong's numbers into the Strong's dictionary to see the Strong's entries.

The other difference is that this seems to be consistent - it always behaves the same way.

Just went to the Gnomesword site - upgraded to Gnomesword 2.4.1 - All solved. It also sets it out much better.
I wonder why the updated version of Gnomesword isn't part of the standard repositories?

Thank you very much for your bug report.
Gnomesword is no longer developed. It has been renamed into Xiphos see xiphos.org

I believe the issue has been fixed upstream

It is Ubuntu policy not to introduce new packages into old releases.

Crosswire packaging team is working on updating Sword, Xiphos, Bibletime and Bibledit in Debian and Karmic. But additionally we provide our packages for older releases. You can try our packages from the PPA https://edge.launchpad.net/~pkgcrosswire/+archive/ppa

We have Hardy - Karmic packages there.

Please comment on this bug if you are still experiencing this issue with the Xiphos package from the PPA.

Everything seems fine in Xiphos 3.1 / Ubuntu karmic. Setting to invalid for now.

affects: gnomesword (Ubuntu) → xiphos (Ubuntu)
Changed in xiphos (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
